The Virginia Beach VA250 Committee was established by the City Council in 2023 to commemorate the local events and achievements associated with the American Revolution 250 years ago. It is made up of 16 members, appointed by Council, who are serving a three-year term.

The goal of the Committee shall be to commemorate the local events and achievements, large and small, that occurred in Virginia Beach 250 years ago and during all times by all people, that embody the ideals and ideas of the “American Experiment” and declared as essential truths and unalienable rights in the Declaration of Independence.
The Virginia Beach VA250 Committee is supported by Planning and Community Development.
The Committee's meeting schedule, agendas, minutes and other meeting documents are available in the OnBoard archive.
July 4, 2026, will be celebrated in Virginia Beach and throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia as the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence for the United States of America. Events leading up to and following the issuance of the Declaration impacted and involved citizens in Princess Anne County (present-day City of Virginia Beach) and the Hampton Roads region. As a way of counting down the 25 weeks leading to this monumental anniversary, the Virginia Beach VA250 Committee is presenting a brief historical episode each week to get you in the “Spirit of 76.”
